How Kybella Works

The active ingredient in Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid. This is a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that helps break down and absorb fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction of fullness under the chin.

A typical Kybella treatment takes about 20 to 30 minutes. Once you’ve had the treatment done, you can immediately return to work or resume your everyday activities. The most common side effects patients experience include some swelling, bruising, numbness, discomfort and redness around the treatment area. However, these side effects are temporary and usually disappear completely within a week. Most patients see remarkable results after two to four treatment sessions, which are spaced at about one month apart. Up to six treatments may be administered.
